UNLEASH YOUR ADVENTURE!
Embarking on a river journey is about more than just adventure—it's a transformative experience
As you follow the path of a river, fully disconnected from technology and immersed in the raw beauty of nature, you'll find yourself in some of the most remote and vibrant places on the planet. River expeditions offer a rare opportunity to reconnect with yourself, your companions, and the natural world. In our fast-paced, tech-driven society, the chance to slow down and align with the rhythms of nature has never been more crucial.
Rivers have a deep, timeless resonance. They ground us, inspire us, and, when given the chance, shape our paths and relationships.
We craft each expedition to be a unique, one-of-a-kind experience, tailored to your specific goals, team, schedule, and budget. Each journey is meticulously designed to meet your needs.

Sharing our passion for rivers while delivering unparalleled experiences
Lifelong friends and expedition partners, Rush Sturges and Tyler Bradt have dedicated their lives to exploring and documenting the world's rivers.
With a combined half-century of experience in navigating some of the most remote and challenging whitewater on Earth, Rush and Tyler established River Roots Expedetions with a singular mission: to share their profound love for rivers through unforgettable, custom-tailored expeditions.
Tyler Bradt is a whitewater kayaker best known for his world record waterfall descents and ground breaking expeditions. Among his accomplishments are two world records for waterfall descents, his first 107 feet at Alexandria Falls in the Northwest Territories of Canada and his second, the current waterfall world record of 189 feet at Palouse Falls in Eastern Washington.
Tyler’s extensive expeditions include a world circumnavigation in a sailboat, the longest alternatively fuel road trip ever taken from Alaska to Argentina, a five month whitewater kayaking expedition throughout Eastern Africa and over 100 first descents worldwide.
Tyler was born in Hamilton, Montana in 1986 and grew up working the family cattle ranch in Western Montana. He became a professional whitewater kayaker by the age of 16 and broke waterfall world records at the ages of 21 and 23. During his 20s he accomplished the Oil and Water Project, a nine month alternatively fueled road trip from Alaska to Argentina. The Africa Revolutions Tour, a five month whitewater kayaking expedition throughout Eastern Africa and Madagascar. The Wizard’s Eye Expedition, a five year sailing and whitewater kayaking world circumnavigation. Tyler has since moved to White Salmon, Washington.
As a filmmaker Tyler has directed and produced numerous award winning adventure sport films including Africa Revolutions Tour and Dream Result. He is currently working on a documentary film series of the Wizard’s Eye Expedition as well as a book chronicling the expedition and his early life.
In Tyler’s latest endeavor, River Roots Expeditions, Tyler has teamed up with his long time friend and expedition partner Rush Sturges to create a hard-access expedition and logistics business sharing their love for rivers and wildplaces with influential people from around the world.
Rush Sturges is an acclaimed adventure filmmaker and professional whitewater kayaker. Rush has spent equal time in front of and behind the camera, directing and producing projects like “The River Runner” (available on Netflix), as well as branded content for companies like Ford, Mexico Tourism, National Geographic and Polaris.
Rush’s experience as both athlete and filmmaker make him a go-to partner for companies seeking a director who understands the intricacies of producing captivating content in dangerous and remote environments.
While Rush remains active as a professional paddler, much of his energy has shifted towards directing and producing content. Having studied film at the Art Institute of Vancouver, B.C., Rush's career has taken him to the most majestic locations on earth, including places like Pakistan, China, Nepal and the Democratic Republic of Congo. He focuses on telling stories that touch on subjects from extreme sports to conservation to branded and commercial content with a focus on the outdoors.
In 2009, Rush founded River Roots, a media production house based in his adopted hometown of White Salmon, WA. In 2022, he collaborated with the non profit Rios to Rivers to co-found the Paddle Tribal Waters program, an educational program designed to teach tribal youth the sport of kayaking.
Currently, Rush is working on a documentary following tribal youth as they train to become the first group to successfully navigate the Klamath River from source to sea.
Outside of managing River Roots and his many film projects Rush is also an avid musician with a catalog of music that can be found wherever you get your music.
Our Process
We begin with a complimentary assessment to understand your objectives and discuss which river aligns best with your vision. Following this, a deposit—applied towards the total expedition cost—secures your spot, and we work closely with you to customize every detail of the journey.
As the expedition date approaches, we provide comprehensive resources to help you pack and prepare effectively. We handpick a team of river experts with the highest level of local knowledge and expertise. A detailed logistics plan will be shared, and you'll have the chance to meet your team virtually to discuss final details and address any last-minute needs. While every expedition involves a degree of unpredictability, our focus on assembling a top-tier team and fine-tuning logistics is key to ensuring a successful and rewarding experience.
Thriving in remote wilderness river expeditions is both an art and a science, and it’s the foundation of our expertise.
We look forward to seeing you on the water!
